ITINERARY
DAY 1: LEMOSHO GATE (2,100m) – MTI MKUBWA CAMP (2,650m)

While the permits are being arranged, your porters will organize and load the group’s camping equipment, food, and personal luggage.
Once preparations are complete, begin hiking along the forest trail. The first section passes through the lush lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, providing a gentle introduction to the trek.

Today’s hike continues across the vast Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateau regions in the world.
Gradually ascend toward Shira Cathedral, a dramatic natural rock formation surrounded by towering spires and rugged volcanic features. The remote atmosphere and expansive scenery make this one of the most memorable sections of the Northern Circuit.
Weather conditions can change quickly at this altitude, and afternoon mist may occasionally move across the plateau. From the higher viewpoints, there are also beautiful views toward Mount Meru.
Continue across the Shira Caldera, passing close to Shira 2 Camp and Shira Cave, before making your way toward Moir Hut at 4,200m.
Located beneath the Lent Hills, Moir Hut is a quieter and more isolated campsite, making it an excellent location to experience the high-altitude environment and support acclimatization.

As you gain elevation, the vegetation becomes almost nonexistent, creating a stark, lunar-like environment.
Cross the Saddle before continuing upward toward School Hut at approximately 4,800m. The camp is reached in the early afternoon, allowing you several hours to rest.
Use the remainder of the day to recover, organize your summit equipment, hydrate, and prepare mentally and physically for the final ascent.

The climb continues steadily toward Gillman’s Point, situated on the crater rim at approximately 5,681m. Take a short rest here and, weather permitting, enjoy the spectacular sunrise with views toward Mawenzi Peak.
From Gillman’s Point, continue around the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in Africa at 5,895m.
The route passes close to the remaining glaciers and dramatic ice formations near the summit. After reaching Uhuru Peak, celebrate your achievement and take photographs before beginning the descent.
