6 Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Via Umbwe Route
6 Days Umbwe Route offers 5 nights 6 days mount Kilimanjaro climbing through Umbwe’s shortest but steepest and most direct route to the Southern Glaciers, Western Breach and Uhuru Peak. Umbwe route is most likely the most spectacular, non-technical route in Kilimanjaro National Park.
Nonetheless, Umbwe route is a little difficult, due to the relatively fast ascent to higher altitude, but the rewards are worth the climb . Umbwe route is very steep, which is the best choice for experienced & extensive mountain trekkers.

The day before the actual date of the 6 days umbwe route trek, you will be met by a representative from Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, at either your hotel or airport. He will brief you about your 5 nights of mount Kilimanjaro climbing, as well as check & arrange your hiking gear.
Day By Day Mount Kilimanjaro climbing For 6 Days Via Umbwe Route
DAY 1:Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave of the 6 days Umbwe Route

From your Hotel, your driver guide will transfer you to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate where you will make your registration procedures, plus the issuance of the climbing permit. Thereafter, You will trek through a small winding path leading through rain forest and along the Umbwe river, and arrive at Umbwe Forest camp, between huge trees and thick undergrowth.. The lower elevations is are often muddy and sometimes slippery, which requires the use of gaites
Day 2: Umwe Cave to Baranco Camp of 6 Days Umbwe Route
Elevation: 2944m/9659ft to 3986m/13,077ft
Altitude gained: 1042m
Wake up to a hearty breakfast, then exit the rain forest and proceed on a steep path ascending upwards, along the Umbwe ridge , and descend slightly to Barranco camp located in the valley, where temperatures begin to drop.
DAY 3: Baranco camp – Karanga Camp

Altitude gained: 48m
Have breakfast early, and continue on a steep ridge up the adventurous Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and then to the junction, which connects to the Mweka Trail. It is on this day that you will experience the power, agility, and strength over this wall. Dinner and overnight at Karanga Campsite.
DAY 4:Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast, Ascend steadily up towards Barafu Camp, which marks the end of the Southern Circuit, which offers several impressive views of the Uhuru Peak from all angles. Dinner will be served early, so that you can rest for an early start on the summit days.

DAY 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Distance: 4.86km /3mi up
Distance: 5-7hrs
Mweka: 11.5km /7.1mi down

Rise up early to begin your trek. You will set off between 12:00 am to 2:00am depending on the guide’s advise. Thereafter you will make your way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, while you try to forcuss and try to stay warm. You will continue through a north-westerly direction and climb steeply through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. You will then enjoy the magnificent sunrise while jtaking a short rest at this point, yet faster hikers see the sunrise from the summit.There after, continue with your hike for 1 hour to to the summit, although you are most likely to encounter snow, all the way through.
At Uhuru Peak, you will be allowed to celebrate your victory over reaching Uhuru peak for a while, then after begin to descend, downwards over uncooperative loose gravel and volcano ash terrain to Mweka camp, with an en-route stopover at Barafu camp for lunch break. Dinner & overnight at Mweka Camp.
DAY 6: Mweka camp – Mweka gate – Moshi
Distance: 9.1km/5.7mi
Duration:3-4hrs | Rainforest
Elevation: 3106m/10,190ft to 1633m/5358ft
Altitude lost: 1473m
Wake up for breakfast, then after embark on your descent downwards to Mweka park gate for your certificate award over conquering the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro , up to Uhuru Peak. Although the weather might be warmer the terrain is wet and muddy, which requires the use of gaiters and trekking poles. At the gate, you will meet with your driver who will transfer you from Mweka village to your accommodation in Moshi
