1 Day Mount Kilimanjaro Hike Via Lemosho Route

The commencement of 1 Day Mount Kilimanjaro Hike Via Lemosho Route. We have documented each day of our ascent of Kilimanjaro to provide insight into the terrain, obstacles, equipment, and level of service we deliver. This film and information should provide you with a clearer understanding of daily life on the mountain. Your expedition on Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa, commences today!

Day 1 of Kilimanjaro on the Lemosho Route

Today focuses on ascending the mountain. You will rise at 7 AM this morning for breakfast at the hotel. By 8 AM, all individuals will have their luggage prepared and be poised for departure. The guides will be present to welcome you and assist with loading your things into the van. Upon loading the bus, you will bid farewell to the hotel’s comforts and commence the journey! The journey will require roughly 3 to 4 hours to arrive at the Lemosho Gate, located on the western flank of Kilimanjaro. Certain segments of the drive are on primary highways; however, portions consist of unpaved, uneven terrain. The Lemosho Gate is situated at an elevation of 2,300 meters (7,545 feet).

Registering at the National Park

Upon arrival at the Lemosho Gate, the team will register at Kilimanjaro National Park. Your initial meal will thereafter be provided by our crew on the route! A three-course lunch will be served at the Gate, and you will get the opportunity to meet our entire kitchen team. You will spend around two hours at the gate, as here is where all workers prepare their load carriers and weigh their equipment. This will be your initial glimpse of the diligent efforts undertaken by our skilled personnel!

For a typical cohort of 10 hikers, we will employ approximately 50 staff people. Guides, assistant guides, porters, chefs, security personnel, tent staff, and runners will transport fresh food to the summit. Upon completion of weighing all luggage and finishing lunch, the expedition commences.

The Start of the Trail

The initial night on the mountain will be spent at the Big Tree Camp, located at an elevation of 2,800 meters (9,186 feet). The trip is expected to last around three hours and is the most straightforward initial day on any Kilimanjaro route. This day facilitates acclimatization to the low oxygen atmosphere, aiding your body in adapting effectively throughout the initial phase of the ascent. This is essential for achieving success in climbing Kilimanjaro. The path ascends through the Rain Forest, and if fortunate, you may observe some of the fauna inhabiting this region of the mountain. The path ascends consistently on potentially slippery and rugged ground. Consequently, it is imperative to proceed cautiously and ensure that each step is secure.

Upon completing around three hours of hiking, you will arrive at your overnight destination! Big Tree Camp is situated in the Rain Forest at an elevation of 2,800 meters (9,186 ft). Consequently, this will be one of the hottest nights you will experience on the mountain. This evening marks your inaugural night sleeping on the mountain, so you may require additional time to prepare. Upon arrival at the camp, you will identify your tent and commence preparations for the evening. Unpack and inflate your sleeping mat and bag, remove your trekking boots and clothing, and prepare for the night. A bowl of warm water will be provided for cleansing prior to proceeding to the mess tent for dinner.

Learning How to Handle Altitude

Avoid significant elevation changes at high altitudes. Ideally, one should not ascend more than 700 meters or 2,300 feet in a single day if intending to sleep at that new altitude. This facilitates your ascent in a secure manner. It assists your body in acclimatizing effectively to increased altitude and diminished oxygen levels. It is hoped that it enables you to accomplish this without falling ill or experiencing a setback. This occurs more frequently than one may assume. Fewer than 60% of individuals who attempt to ascend Kilimanjaro fail to reach the summit. We prefer the Lemosho Route for its optimal acclimatization schedule.
