Day 1 Machame Gate (1,790 m) – Machame Camp (3,010 m)

Following breakfast, you will be collected from the lodge and transported to the entrance gate of Kilimanjaro National Park to commence your private climb, join a group trip, or undertake a solo hike on Kilimanjaro. As your guide attends to the registration procedures, you may observe the mountain crew preparing for the ascent, and after this is completed, your Kilimanjaro expedition will commence. Shortly, you will find yourself immersed in the splendid mountain rainforest, characterized by old trees, primordial ferns, lianas, and a ground adorned with lichen and moss that cascades from the trees. You may hear and, with some fortune, even observe the exquisite black and white colobus monkeys in the treetops. After 5 to 6 hours, you will arrive at today’s destination — the Machame Camp, located just above the forest line. At the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, you will partake in your first dinner, succeeded by an overnight accommodation in tents.

Day 2: Machame Camp (3,010 m) to New Shira Camp (3,845 m), then to Lava Tower (4,640 m), concluding at Barranco Camp (3,960 m).

Following an early morning commencement, the trajectory becomes more precipitous. The terrain transitions to heath and moorland, providing a clear view of the magnificent mountain range. During this camp, there will be a two-hour intermission for lunch. Today, you will ascend approximately 800 meters, although you will camp at a higher elevation than last night. This will enable your body to acclimate, as an altitude exceeding 4,500 m will be attained within the next day. The expedition commences with an extended climb over the Shira Plateau towards the Lava Tower. The flora diminishes as the terrain transitions to an afro-alpine desert. The path traverses the expansive Barranco Valley, characterized by its lobelia and gigantic senecio flora. After 1 to 7 hours, you will reach the most exquisite campsite on the mountain — the Barranco Camp.
