Campsite Facilities

The camp features a ranger’s office for registration upon arrival and departure. A kitchen and a dining hall are available for meal consumption. The porters and other team members have distinct living arrangements.

Location

The Horombo campground is situated on the southern flank of Kilimanjaro. It is situated between the mountains of Mawenzi. Mawenzi is the third tallest summit on Kilimanjaro. The camp is situated at the interface of Moorland and Alpine vegetation. This indicates it possesses traits from both locations. Conditions can rapidly transition from wet and dry.

Temperatures can fluctuate between extremes within a matter of minutes. The trail to this route can be muddy, slippery, and rough. A zebra crossing is located next to the Horombo huts camp. This zebra possesses Zebra rocks rather than genuine live zebras. You have the opportunity to observe these rocks while residing at this camp.

Transitioning from the moorland to the Alpine region results in a substantial decrease in oxygen levels. This campsite offers an opportunity to become acquainted with the Alpine region.  Located below this point on the Marangu path is the Mandara huts camp, followed by the Kibo huts.
